Whelp. Turns out I like making temperature blankets. Or at least I became absolutely addicted to it last year. So much so I'm doing it again, and even wrote a guide for others. It helped me feel accomplished and was a mindless project that I could do to help me regulate when feeling not so great in daily life.
I have been crocheting for years (like almost 2 decades now), and blankets were always something I wanted to do but would quickly loose interest and then subsequently decide that the yarn was better served in another project.
Honestly, I like to unravel projects. It's oddly satisfying to me.
So when I saw temperature blankets on Tik Tok in 2022, I thought it was a cool idea, and I like seeing all the updates from people. I decided I wanted to do one.
I watched a lot of videos of things that people found challenging and what they didn't like about the project. I took into consideration the videos of people saying, "DO NOT DO A TEMPERATURE BLANKET" seriously.
Was this a project I could do?
I couldn't stop thinking about it, however, and started making plans in my head about what I would want to do with my blanket and how I would make it doable for me. What solutions did their struggles have and how could I problem solve? Thoughts about temperatures blankets consumed me non-stop and had me by a mental chokehold. (Thanks neurodivergent brain cells.)
I came up with a plan and I went for it. Push come to shove, I could unravel this blanket and use the yarn for amigurumis. I didn't wind up actually undoing it at any point, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process.
So here is what I'm doing the same this year:
Graph tracking my temps/days and highlighting the done days.
Creating a temperature gauge to reference.
Using a non-sc only pattern.
Weaving in as a I go.
Using wunderground.com/history for my data collection
What I'm doing differently:
Making a gauge swatch.
Mathing out the size of my blanket, and dividing the rows in half because then I can have a more normal sized blanket. Also I can do this because it's a leap year and 366 days, an even number. Otherwise, I would need to figure something else out.
Starting off with my tote right away.
Removing the black strips between months (would have added too much length).
What's your big project this year, and how is your progress coming on it?
Love Always, Laura Ann
